I love this!

Moose butter! That's kind of a cool cuss word!
We had a fantastic dinner at the Jackson Lake Lodge a few nights ago.
Trout, Salmon, Elk and Buffalo Prime Rib! Last night we ate at my
friend's the Povah's and we had Deer burgers. Folks out here really
use their resources. I have eaten all things Huckleberry that I find.
My Fav though is a huckleberry milkshake....mmmmm

I am starting to lament already that we only have a week left. Lord
knows there have been moments when I feel a bit crowded with the four
of us vying
for space and the dogs always wanting
To be next to someone, but there is something liberating about only
having a few cabinets full of favorite belongings and not so much

I will have to blog again about being back in West Yellowstone. I'm
still digesting
a flood of memories and new friends.

Camera Casualty

Well, yesterday's kayaking cruise down the Colorado River will
definitely go down as one of my favorite times ever.

And speaking of going down..

We were guided by our friends Miso and Lucy who are locals and know
the best beaches to picnic and swim. Yes! There are actual sand
beaches with Cottonwoods making shade for a nice
nap.

Miso lent us some waterproof video cameras so we could document our
day, and one went down in action, probably when Doug and Ben were
wrestling playing "king of the kayak!"

Miso's the best and was sadder for us to lose the footage than the
camera.

I am looking at it this way. It's sort of like a time capsule. It's
waterproof so it will probably get knocked along the bottom of the
river and surface at Lake Powell sometime around the turn of the next
century. Someone will fish it out and find some antique computer to
Download our home movies. They will be amazed to see how violent a
father and son could get, struggling to be the Alpha boatman, way back
when.

Could happen....

Bear in the campground!

Aaaaah! Last night, our campground in La Veta, CO was buzzing. Some folks saw a huge (maybe 400 lb) bear hugging a tree outside one of the RVs No scat! I guess it's fairly common as they warn you about it all around camp.

I had bear dreams all night. I love bears! In one dream I made friends with him but the other one he had me in mind for dindin.

Just need to keep the dogs in after dark out here. They're cute but can be fierce. I wouldn't want to hurt a bear.

Took a scenic ride on the Rio Grande Railroad yesterday then performed a set with Michael Martin Murphy and friends. He squeezed me in and folks acted surprised that I was there.

We'll have new video up later. Some real fun stuff! Stay tuned.

A Gift

OK now we're cookin'! Hit the mountains and I just felt my spirits lift. There really is something spiritual about getting away and communing with..OK, maybe I'm getting cosmic, but you probably know what I mean.
Had such a great time last night performing in Placitas NM. My good friends Gary and Carolyn Roller invited me to do one of their Campfire Series Shows. We've been trying to get this scheduled for a couple of years now and "Dang It" we finally got it done. Now I can't wait to do the next one. So fun doing a mini Cowboy set with Gary, Sid Masters and Uncle Bob. Check out the webisode so you can see the amazing sunset that was way upstaging me.

Tonight I made pasta with alfredo sauce, proscuitto and peas while the boys rode bikes and fished. Honestly, it was perfection. Me doing something I love...cooking in the mountains at a great campsite in the trees and them off away from computers and TV. Though they came back to the RV empty-handed, they acted as if they had received a gift and I felt like I too.

Really Good Morning

First one awake this morning..besides Zoe who has some kind of crazy internal clock that makes her bark one loud yip at 6am every single morning. At home they sleep in the bathroom below our bedroom so depending on the night before it sometimes sends me straight up in the air. This morning however, I found it strangely homey and I rolled over for another hour in sweet RV bliss.

We'll start from OK City this morning so it'll be another long drive to Albuquerque. Don't care though cuz we are ridin' in style and don't even need so many potty stops!
